Mission and Service

We are partnering with the Connections Early Learning Center to provide a much needed service within our community!

Service is a big part of who we are.
We are active in mission locally and globally.

Refugee Resettlement

Over the past 55 years, our church has welcomed over 300 refugees from more than 16 countries. We partner with Church World Service Harrisonburg to provide short term housing in two apartments that we own and maintain here in Bridgewater.

For more information, contact the church office.

The Food Pantry & Community Garden

The Bridgewater Area Inter-Church Food Pantry is run by volunteers from several local churches. The Pantry offers curbside service on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

We also have a large Food Pantry Garden on our property, where we raise hundreds of pounds of produce each season for multiple food pantries in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

Backpack Program

We partner with other local congregations to provide accessible to food to children on the weekends and breaks during the regular Rockingham County school year. Volunteers shop for food, pack the bags, and deliver them to local area schools. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact the office.

FaithX: Faith Outreach Expeditions

Every summer, folks from our congregation participate in the Church of the Brethren FaithX program: week-long service immersion projects for all ages. Learn more here.

Brethren Volunteer Service

Many Bridgewater Church members spend a year or more of their life in full-time volunteer service, often through our denominational Brethren Volunteer Service program. BVSers serve all around the world, meeting human need, advocating for justice, caring for creation and working for peace.

Brethren Disaster Response Ministries

Members of our congregation regularly volunteer with Brethren Disaster Response, repairing and rebuilding storm damaged homes for some of the most vulnerable disaster survivors. By demonstrating Christ’s love and putting their faith in action as they restore damaged homes, volunteers also restore broken lives.

Church Facility Use

Another way we serve our community is through the complimentary use of our church building for various meetings of local groups such as the scouts, local schools, services for the aging, art groups, choral societies, non-partisan political gatherings, and many more.

The various church rooms/spaces can also be rented for various private events, such as weddings, and more information is available by contacting the church office.
